Celebratory Church Service to Take Place in Florida on April 26
Miami, FL – April 24, 2009 – Air Jamaica is celebrating 40 years of service as Jamaica’s National Carrier. In recognition of this milestone, the airline will host a special church service at the Christway Baptist Church on Sunday, April 26 at 4:00 p.m. The church is located at 3800 South Douglas Road in Miramar, Florida, and the service is open to the public.
“These are changing times for Air Jamaica and the global family, but we are empowered by our rich 40-year history and buoyed by the commitment of our employees as we stand ready to embrace the future,” said Bruce R. Nobles, Air Jamaica’s President and CEO. “We thank all of our customers and look forward to their continued support for many years to come.”
Air Jamaica’s first flight, a twin-jet DC-9 with approximately 90 passengers and crew, departed Kingston’s Norman Manley International Airport for Miami on April 1, 1969. This signaled the beginning of Air Jamaica’s 40-year legacy as the National Carrier, connecting Jamaica to the world.
The airline is marking its anniversary with a series of celebratory church services in Jamaica and North America, the first took place in Kingston and Montego Bay on April 5 as well as New York on April 19. A service will also be held in Toronto on May 3.
